Valleyview Minor Hockey lost one of its brightest stars, Cole Dallyn, at the tender age of sixteen. Cole played minor hockey in Valleyview since the age of 10, and played left wing on the UFA Midget team that won the All Peace League banner in 2005. The midget coach, Blair McNab, praised Cole as a great role model who always gave 110%.
Prior to his passing, Cole submitted an entry in the Valleyview Minor Hockey's name and logo contest. A special panel of judges was appointed to choose the name and logo that all Valleyview Minor Hockey teams would wear from that point on. Not knowing who submitted the design entries, the panel unanimously chose Cole's "Ice Bears" name and logo. A framed "Ice Bears" jersey with Cole's number 14 will hang in the Polar Palace for all time. This is a fitting tribute to this fine young man.
The Valleyview U18 Ice Bears have since started a "Heart and Hustle" award in Cole's memory.
Each year a recipient is chosen by midget players and coaches.
Recipients of this award are chosen for their dedication and ability to always try and give 110%.
